WAVE Bioreactor System500/1000: 100 - 500 liter capacity

 
 
 

Designed for R&D, process development and cGMP production use, the WAVE Bioreactor is the ideal device for cell culture. Culture medium and cells only contact a presterile, disposable chamber called a Cellbag that is placed on a special rocking platform. The rocking motion of this platform induces waves in the culture fluid. These waves provide mixing and oxygen transfer, resulting in a perfect environment for cell growth that can easily support over 10 x 106 cells/ml. The bioreactor requires no cleaning or sterilization, providing the ultimate ease in operation and protection against cross-contamination.

Technology:


Linear electronic motor with only one moving part

A unique electric linear piston is used to rock the SYSTEM500/1000. This remarkable unit has only one moving part. This electromagnetic device, unlike geared motors, provides greater reliability and noiseless operation. The piston follows a preset and optimal speed and acceleration profile that was developed to provide the most effective wave.
 

Expansion bays for DO, O2, CO2, pH and other optional modules

Expansion slots are provided for optional instrumentation such as the DO500, pH500 and integral load cells. Many of these options can be added in the field. The expansion rack is fully compatible with all standard WAVE Bioreactor instrumentation and provides an easy way to add new features and options as the need arises or when new modules become available.
   

Articulated touchscreen panel controls all functions

The articulated color touchscreen provides easy access to all control functions. Real-time trends of key parameters such as speed and temperature can also be viewed. The touchscreen is housed in a stainless steel enclosure and can be tilted and rotated. The touchscreen can also be mounted remotely by the user.
 

Built-in ethernet and MODBUS RS485 data acquisition

Ethernet and MODBUS data ports are standard equipment with the SYSTEM500/1000. This provides great flexibility for data logging and control. Our PCDAQ software can be used for data logging or you can interface to any software package that supports the industry-standard MODBUS RTU protocol.
 

Quick-release bag holder can hold 500L or 1000L Cellbags

Cam-lock levers lock the Cellbag in place. Cellbags can be removed and inserted in minutes. The holder design assures that the Cellbag is always locked in the optimal position for oxygen transfer and mixing.

Accessories:


DOOPT500

Optical dissolved oxygen amplifier for the SYSTEM500/1000. Enables on-line control of dissolved oxygen in Cellbags. Use only with our miniature DOOPT-PROBE fiber optic dissolved oxygen probes.
   


CO2MIX500

CO2-air mixture controller. Connect to a supply of 100% CO2 and set any desired CO2-air concentration from 0 to 15% CO2. Very useful for pH control of bicarbonate buffered cell culture media.
   


O2MIX500

O2-air mixture controller and aeration pump. Connect to a supply of oxygen (and low pressure N2 supply if desired) and set any desired O2-air concentration from 0-50% O2. Very useful for controlling enriched oxygen levels for insect cell/baculovirus and high culture density applications. Also useful for maintaining low-oxygen environments for near-anaerobic applications.
   


pH500

pH monitor with acid/base pump controller included. Enables online control of pH in Cellbags. Use only with our pHPROBE electrode, available pre-inserted in CELLBAG500L/pH and CELLBAG1000L/pH.
   


ANALOG500

Analog output card, 0-5V outputs, 8 variables available – System500/1000. Dual control configuration requires (2) cards.
   


ETHERNET485

MODBUS 485 to Ethernet converter option.
   


PCDAQ

Windows-based PC software for control and data logging. Includes hardware and cables to interface PC to the MODBUS RS485 data network used for all WAVE Bioreactor Systems. Predefined user screens require no programming. SQL, spreadsheet and OPC server features. For use with up to 5 WAVE Bioreactors connected to one PC. Upgrades are available for additional units, networked PC’s, and Developer versions.
 


O2GEN

Optional oxygen generator for use with O2MIX20. Produces 4 liters per minute of 92% O2 from ambient air-no gas cylinders required, with take-off points for up to 4 O2MIX units. Floor-standing unit, stainless steel enclosure.
