Spectrophotometry

Related Links

We offer a number of solutions for spectrophotometry. Spectrophotometers in the NanoVue, Ultrospec, Novaspec, and GeneQuant series have been developed for applications such as DNA and RNA quantitation, protein concentration determination, and cell density measurements. SWIFT II Applications Software is 21 CFR Part 11 compliant (electronic records and signatures). A wide range of accessories are available such as cell changer, temperature control unit, and nucleic acid and protein preparation products.

Spectrophotometry is one of the most widely used techniques in modern laboratories. Spectrophotometry is used to measure a wide range of analytes from cells to nucleic acids and proteins. The technique is based on the quantitative measurement of the reflective or transmission properties of a material using light of visible wavelength, near-ultraviolet (UV), or near-infrared as the light source. The amount of light that passes through the solution indicates the concentration of the analyte in solution.
In UV/visible spectrophotometry, samples are usually prepared in cuvettes made of glass, plastic, or quartz. For some spectrophotometers, such as NanoVue Plus, small sample volumes (starting with 0.3 µl) of biological samples (DNA, RNA, and protein) can be quantitated without the use of a cuvette by pipetting the sample directly into the measuring window of the spectrophotometer.
