Multimodal Chromatography (MM)
Like traditional IEX, MM uses charged ligands that interact with the target protein via ionic interactions. In addition, the charged ligands used for MM are enhanced with functional groups that interact with target molecules in a variety of other ways (i.e., hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic, and van der Waals interactions).
Mixed-mode ion exchangers, Capto MMC and Capto adhere, have been developed to offer novel selectivities. Capto MMC combines the advantages of the Capto matrix with the ability to bind proteins under high salt conditions, such as in undiluted feed. Capto adhere can be used for the removal of aggregated monoclonal antibodies to obtain pure monomers.
